Dosis Letalis - Confronting The Inhuman [Breaching Static - 2018]Confronting The Inhuman is a recent two track CDR from Serbian based walled noise/ static texturing project Dosis Letalis. The two ‘walls’ enclosed are both densely weaved, creatively texture, and rather mysterious & a little unsettling in their make-up. This release appears on Breaching Static- the fairly long-running HNW/ noise label of Dubuque IA based Alex Nowacki( Boar, I Watched You Die, Centuries Behind A Gate, Phantom Rib). The labeled CDR comes in a slimline CD case, with artwork- I can’t comment any further on this, as I’m reviewing a digital promo of the release.
Both tracks here are spot on the twenty-five-minute mark- so the release has a total run time of fifty minutes. First up we have the title track, and this starts off with a dense & disorientating blend of choppy ‘n’ tumbling lows & mids, swarming & twitting highs, and these strange warbling sounds -which seem to swim & dart through the mix. As the track progresses there are seemingly subtle adjustments here & there in the layered detail, with more choppy darts, swirling & scarping slices, and layers of twitter & twitch appearing. The tracks a most moody & unsettling bit of wall-work, and to my ears, it sounds like it may be some kind of field recording that Dosis Letalis skillful morphing & manipulated here.
The second & final track here is entitled "Sickening Values That Dominate The World". And once again it’s a curious & murkily moody example of wall craft- it blends together rumbling & bubbling textures, with subtle shifting mesh of twittering, chopping, knocking, and feasting tones. It really feels like you are trying to make your way through some very thick & crawling alien forest- with all these strange muffled calls, gurgles, and fumblings going on around you. This track feels a little slower & murky compared to the first track, and I found it even more disorientating in it’s unfolding.
Confronting The Inhuman is another great example of creative wall-making from Dosis Letalis. And I must say I was most impressed with the unsettling & often unbalancing vibe that Dosis Letalis creates on both tracks here. All in all, I’d say this is one of 2018’s early wall noise highlights Roger Batty
