Anonymous Masturbaudioum - Nylon Encasement [Ominous Recordings - 2017]

Nylon Encasement is a three C60 box set bringing together a selection of often highly creative, layer detailed, and skilled walled noise/ textured noise compositions. This Swiss project has been since 2009- first releasing Harsh noise, but in recent years focusing in on mostly purely walled noise, and as this releases title suggests all of the projects work is themed around Nylon/feet/leg fetish.

This release appeared in September of this year and comes as either physical box set or a digital download. I’m reviewing the box set, and this came in an edition of 14 copies, and as of this review, the label still has copies left.  And it’s fair to say it’s a nice, neat & sleazy looking set- each of the tapes feature monochrome labels taking in various pictures of nylon covered faces either sucking or caressing feet. These tapes come packaged in a single long & clear cassette case, and this takes in more black & white pictures of nylon faces covered- either sucking or caressing feet. Then on top the whole off the whole set comes wrapped in a black nylon. All in all, a very nicely presented box set, which really is a must have physical item for those who follow the more fetish based side of the walled noise scene.

The release in all features nine tracks and each of these either come in around the thirty or fifteen-minute mark. And each track is simply called Encasement- followed by a roman numeral. First up on side A we have "Encasement I", and this is great, great start to the set highlighting both the projects ability to both present layer interesting & detailed wall matter, as well as expertly shifting from one ‘wall’ to the next in a seamless, flowing & perfectly composed manner. The thirty minute track begins with this strange sliding & muffled breathing like texture, this is slowly blended with a rising mesh of detailed popping & snapping static- as the track moves on the initial layer starts to shift in a slightly different pace & pattern to the second layer, and as both textures have a similar crisp midrange, ones mind really starts to spin & get lost in the complex layers of noise. By around the fifth minute we moved into a blend of taut & tight bound static crackle web, which is suddenly edged with a selection of long tears, tight muffled bays, and the occasional high ranged synth sweep ‘n’ spin- really both the control & detail of the tracks make-up is truly inspired.  I won’t go on & describe the remainder of the track, as it will rather spoil the surprise, but trust me this first track is truly masterful in its use of texture, its manipulation, and it’s all-round laser-like compositional control.

Pretty much all the rest of the release's tracks are pretty great too, and here is a selection of my more stand out moments. The just over 15 minutes of "Encasement IV"- which is a creative textured landscape of crisp ‘n’ tautly static pelting, & bucking and popping mid ranged churning- all creating an almost detailed & caustic like groove. "Encasement VI", which is really best described as a fifteen-minute submersion with-in wonderfully controlled whipping & spiraling sonic winter storm- where fixed crisp descents, meet swirling grain, and cluttering batter- with later on moves into prolonged sweeps of more uniformed rushing, breaking up the more detailed weaves of texture.  Onto the final track "Encasement IX"- this just over twenty-eight minute tracks starts out with a blend of constantly flowing static purr, weaving slightly bucking rushing, and a selection of strange female whispers- these are both unsettling, strangely sensual, and more than a little unbalancing. As the track progresses AM pulls out more subtle stretchers of static bound hissing, galloping weaves of crispness, rapid tone sustains, or sudden cascading tunnels of juddering descent.

I think there was only one track here that didn’t do much for me, and felt more than little out of place with the rest of the set & that is the second to last track "Encasement IX". This just over twenty-minute track starts off with a female voice talking in a fairly clear & informative manner…as I’m not a great language authority I couldn’t say what the language is but I'm guessing Russian. Anyway, after this short few second intro we move into a mix of rushing & swirling mids, which are underpinned by at first more of this now rather bland female dialogue, and later radio fuzzed snippets of light jazz easy listening. The textures used on this track feel a little random & messy, lacking the control or skill of the other tracks. Next, the wondering & rather bland easy listening elements give the whole a very buoyant & bright feel- which really is odds with the rest of the release. The whole track just feels both shapeless, unimaginative, and plainly boring… and to be honest I’m really at a miss as to how & why this track was put on the release.

As I’d expected from this projects past work 90 percent of Nylon Encasement is top drawer walled noise/static texturing- all making this easily one of the scenes highlights of this year. I just don’t understand the addition of the second to last track…so, as a result, I wanted to give this 4.5, but as we don’t do half’s M[m] I’ve gone for 4.
