LACH - Self Titled [Reason Art Records - 2016]Here we have the first release from LACH- a new collaborative project that brings together two rather creative euro noise makers. The release comes in the form of a C60 (and digital download) on up & coming Russian noise/ walled noise label Reason Art Records. The LACH project brings together Uk based Clive Henry( known for his progressive & experimental walled noise work), and Italian based Lorenzo Abattoir( of suicidal walled noise project Nascitari, and more experimental noise projects such as PSICOPOMPO & Tomorrow I'll Shoot Myself In The Mouth) In the early summer of 2015 the pair did a mini UK tour together, and this release utilizes recordings from one of these shows( the Nottingham date on June 7th)- though I’m not sure if these have been altered or adjusted before been released. I was lucky enough to see the pair when they played a London date on this tour, at that show they did play separately & not as a pair, though that said I do recognize elements from both of the solo sets I heard here, so I'm guessing the two tracks could be constructed around elements from various performances.….anyway what is offered up here are two nearing thirty minute tracks, that are shifting, often layered, and very creative blends of static texturing, noise based improv, progressive walled-noise/ ANW, and general clever experimental sound-making. The first sides track is entitled "Spiteful Spring/ first LACH", and this opens with an oddly eerier, fairly cryptic & layered blend of rubbing textures, spinning/ snoring sounds, whistling's, odd shifting & scribbling. From here on the track shifts though blends of haunting pipe music samples & shifting/ cut noise layers. Onto flair complex maps of pop, snaps, unsettling breathing sounds, cut layers of feed-back, and almost rhythmic electro pluses. Though to dense yet no less detailed ventures into blends of galloping yet awkward wall work, rattle ‘n’ scratching, and strange forkings. In all there is a lot of very interesting/ creative things going on here, and the pair nicely pull them all together into a cohesive & worthy bit of noise-making, that really manages to step out of genre labels Side two’s track is entitled "Flesh Is Money/ second LACH". This track opens up with a selection of breathing & semi-hyperventilating noises, which are blended with scatterings of feedback, building almost harmonic/ groove based noise textures, and cable buzzers. Once again this track is fairly shifting & episodic in it’s unfolded, though it maybe feels a little more intense & dense in much of its sonic landscape. As we move from creative blends of detailed yet thick wall-matter. Though to unsettling seas of honking & wailing vocalizing, spindly & crackling noise texturing, and unsettling improv meets ambience back drops. Onto often jarringly altering sondscapes that move from blends of thick pelting/ hissing noise texturing & rattling/ knocking, onto to pared back yet still very taut blends of static haze & forking draggings. Really this side is on par with the first sides track, and offers up another very eventfully, clever, and extremely worthy bit of noise craft. Sadly I’d already picked my best of 2016 before I got round to hearing this, but if I’d heard it sooner it would have most definitely featured in my list- as there is so much thought, depth, and sound-crafting talent gone into this release. Really if you have even a passing interest of more eventful & progressive walled noise/ static texturing this first LACH release is a must have. Roger Batty
