Novasak/Vomir - c20 Split [Forever Escaping Boredom - 2014] | This two way HNW split bringstogether a European & US based project-on the first side we have a track from Denver Colorado based Novasak, and on the flip side we have a track from French HNW legend Vomir. Novasak( aka Todd Novosad) is Experimental noise musician and visual artist- the project has been active since the early 2000’s, and has released around 50 releases taking in stand alone CDR releases, cassette splits, and a few download releases. By all accounts this project normally focuses in on a more synth based harsh noise sound, through I do seem to recall this project doing some other ‘wall’ like stuff in the past. Novasak untitled track kicks in with a rapidly rushing ‘wall’ that mixers together: a thick low-end billowing tone, a couple of thinner mid-to-semi high ranged grating tube or rail textures( the releases front cover features a picture of a sc-fi looking futuristic tube train tunnel, which is most fitting for this sides track). By around the 3rd minute we get a sustained boiling tone kicking in, and this holds in place for thirty seconds or so before it fades back. After this point Novasak, shifts first one tonal sweep then another through the track in quite a distant spaced-out manner. But then just around the 5.30 mark the track suddenly cuts out!... which is really pity as I was quite enjoying what he was doing here. Vomir should need little or no introduction to anyone who has even a passing interest in walled noise- put simply this project of Frenchmen Romain Perrot is one of the most known, prolific & respected of all the HNW entities. The Untitled track here is built around a rapid, crude & intense mixture of the follow noise tones: a shearing battering’ buffeting low-end, sweeping & grating mid-to-high pitched tone drifts, and later deeper sustained & boiling noise tones. I guess like the first track there is quite a intense futuristic tube train vibe to the track, and I was quite surprised as there's quite a lot of sweeps of different searing pitchers of tone for Vomir, which rather brought to mind more sci-fi-ed harsh noise…through that said I’d still say this is walled noise, as there are still always constant walled textures in place. All told this is an appealing enough little c20 split, though I did find it a little odd the way the Novasak track seemingly cut out after just under six mintues…oh well, I look forward to hearing this projects future forays into the walled noise form. And on the Vomir side, this is another consistent & intense bit of wall-making from Mr Perrot, and as I've said the track has quite an uncommon searing ‘n’ space bound harsh noise feel to it, though it still remains firmly in wall territory....on and this release was issued in a fairly HNW scene generous edition of 50 copies, so all been well you’ll still be able to get hold of a copy of this.( up-date...it seems my copy of the tape had a error on it, so the Novasak should last just over nine mintues...oh, and if you prefer digital copy of the release…check it here ) Roger Batty
