W>A>S>P>S - Accelerone Curves [Bored Bear Recordings - 2014]

W>A>S>P>S is a  fairly new British based HNW/ ANW project, and this 3inc CDR presents the listener with two ten minute walls,  that move from buzzing bass bound wall-making, onto glitch bound grating ‘n’ treble based wall-making.

This project has been active since some point in 2012, and as far as I can make out has put out five or so releases, which taking in a full length CDR, this 3inc, an split 7inc, and a few cassette releases.  Behind the project is Benjamin Hallatt, whose been active with-in the Uk noise scene since 2008/ 2009 releasing mostly minimalist noise making, with projects like SCKE//,Daphine And Lyndsey, Murder Cult & Kay Hill- he also runs extreme minimalism and far left field abstract noise label KIKS/Girlfriend.

First up we have “Curve”, and this track is based around a fairly thin yet taut mixture of buzzing ‘n’ drilling bass bound noise texturing, which has these vibrating ‘n’ juddering flecks of static running through it. For the most part the ‘wall’ remains firm, and malevolent buzzing in it’s attack, but here and there it breaks down for a second or so at a time. I guess the track sits somewhere between HNW and ANW, and to me the whole thing has quite a tense & futuristic vibe to it.

The second track comes in the form of “Tracking Curve”, and this glitch bound track brings together a taut mix of tight pummelling treble noise tone, which is constantly seared by this locked & circular grating high end tone. Once again this track sits somewhere between HNW & ANW, and once again it’s a very taut bit of  wall-making  that has a futuristic/ sc-if vibe to it.

“Accelerone Curves” presents the listener with a fairly original & distinctive take on the walled noise form. I guess the closest project sound wise I could think of is Italy’s TFT, who put out a few great futuristic toned HNW releases between 2009 & 2011,  but I think W>A>S>P>S does have it’s own take on the Sc-fi & taut HNW/ ANW sound.
