Alo Girl - Die Erbin Des Dracula [Narcolepsia - 2012]

“Die Erbin Des Dracula” finds this Italian based HNW project offering up a C20’s worth of pummelling yet atmospherically under-fed walled noise. The release's title translates to “The Heiress Of Dracula”( which was the German title for Jess Franco’s euro sleazy horror classic Vampyros Lesbos), and the cover artwork/ inlay suggests late 60’s to early 70’s euro horror b movies.

Each side of tape features a single ten minute track, and on the first side we have “Linda.  This track opens with a few minutes of german toughed female dialogue, & a creepy ‘n’ hovering grainy synth layer. Then we move into the ‘walled noise’ meat of the track- this is built around a mass of smallish jitter 'n' juddering static tones, that are fed into a mid-paced crackly 'n' crunch textural rain-storm. In the back ground you can just make out a looped horror soundtrack like harmonic texture- it sounds much like opening grainy synth texture, but will a repetitive bell like element in there too, but it’s difficult to fully define what is full going on as the elements so buried & faint.  The noise textures have a nice sort of chalky, grainy & dusty feel to them which nicely brings to mind more 1960’s to 1970’s horror fair.

The second sides track is entitled “Das Ist Blut ”, and it opens up with a growing mass of grainy & muffled noise, which to start with is based around an active mass of thinner hissing & scaping lo-fi static.  Around the minute mark a more galloping low-end rumble ‘n’ churn joins the other tones. As the track continues the grim 'n' grainy ‘wall’ shifts between the thinner ‘n’ hissing tonality, and the churning rumble textures- with both elements switching between front of the wall textural dominance. In it’s last few minutes the track drops down into a mixture of eerier hovering drone texturing, and more German toughed female vocals. Again this track nicely conjures up a sleazed yet horror atmospheric vibe that is firmly set in the 60’s or 70’s.

This is the first Alo Girl release I’ve reviewed in a few years, and I must say the project’s still managing to create very effective & rewarding releases. With “Die Erbin Des Dracula”  the  project  perfectly mixers wall intensity with more atmospheric  horror fed moodiness.  This release appeared back in March 2012, but it came in an edition of 57 copies, so you should still be able to get hold of a copy.
