Saturn Form Essence - Orbital Station Sfe1010011 [Depressive Illusions Records - 2010]Saturn Form Essence is a space bound noise/drone project from Ukraine, they create moody & dark soundtracks for doomed intergalactic travel, or sinister planet exportations. The project has been going since 2009, and has released around 50 releases, taking in split tape/ CDR releases, and stand alone tape/ CDR releases. Behind the project is Rivne based Pr. Sergiy, who is most known for his ambient black metal/ raw black metal project Moloch. “Orbital Station Sfe1010011” is a single sided c80, which first appeared on Canadian label No One's Ark ý in 2009. Then was later released in 2010 by Ukraine based Depressive Illusions Records. I’m reviewing a CDR promo of the release, so I can’t really comment on the albums artwork, etc. The release just features one self titled track that comes in just shy of the thirty six minute mark. The track is built around a mixture of slow, morbid, repetitive dark synth ambience, & juddering/ reverb heavy looped noise texturing. As the track progresses the synth textures seem to get slower & slower, while the noise element seems to get more dense & oppressive. The track moves along at a rather simmering/ doomed pace, and it very much creates the feeling of either hopelessly revolving around a dead & abounded space station, or floating off into star-less & doomed space. Both sonic elements here are fairly simplistic, yet together they create a very entranced & doom bound space vibe. I’m not really sure if “Orbital Station Sfe1010011” is still available or not, but as it had a pressing of 500 copies I suspect you’d still be able to get hold of this tape. This is well worth a look if your after totally doomy & dark space bound synth music. Roger Batty
