Love Katy - Firewall [Sweet Solitude Records - 2010] | Now here are two things I bet you’d never imagine seeing together… US Pop singer Katy Perry and brutal Harsh Noise Wall, but here on “Firewall” there both joined together in sweet ‘n’ brutal (mis)harmony. This is this the first release from uk based and Katy Perry obsessed HNW project Love Katy. And on offer here is a 3inch cdr that comes in a full color sleeve, which (of course) features an provocative picture of Ms Perry laying on a bed. Featured here is a single six minute and forty six second track, it all starts out with an untreated sample of Ms Perry’s 2010 hit song “Firework”. At around the 53 seconds mark the sample starts to get engulfed by a rise wall of noise, as the “Firework” track sample fades out a fully formed ‘wall’ takes it’s place. The ‘wall’ is built around: a constant purring static element, a repetitive judder and in the background more muffled and grain static trails- these elements remain locked together for the remainder of the track. On the whole it’s a competent enough ‘wall’ with nice muilt-layered detail going on, I just wish maybe more could have been made from the “Firework” sample…maybe it could have reappeared or been melted/ jittered into the wall it self. So in summing up a rather short opening shot from this new UK HNW project that has an unhealthy obsession with Ms Katy Perry. The ‘wall’ on offer here is well enough built, but really there’s not enough here to judge if the project has talent or not. I await a longer release or full -ength to fully make up my mind on Love Katy Roger Batty
