Innfallen - Three Days of Darkness [First Fallen Star - 2010]From the looks of this cover, I was expecting another Black Metal release. But actually this is blackened Dark Ambient -- no guitars or drums to speak of, just synths and various processed sounds. This nefarious (I mean it in a good way) duo Innfallen is part of the First Fallen Star roster, pretty much extending the whole Dark Ambient genre that had its origins with Roger Karmanik's Cold Meat Industry label. This is quite expertly done as far as production goes, with an apocalyptic theme that stays with you long after listening. I could compare this to early Lustmord and Schloss Tegal, certainly not a bad way to spend an evening when you're in an evil mood. This CD is dedicated "to our families for tolerating our eccentricities and supporting us anyway." This actually makes me think of a Gahan Wilson comic from Playboy where one housewife shows another her son's closet which houses a grotesque spiked-leather outfit, saying "It's just a phase." But I'd say Three Days of Darkness is pretty close to a classic in the Dark Ambient genre. Get your spiked-leather outfit out of your closet and put on this brilliant state-of-the-art disc of musical evil... Lawrence J. Patti
