K11 - Waiting For The Darkness [Afe Records - 2010]K11 is otherwise known as sound artist Pietro Riparbelli, who prefers to make his music from short wave radio transmission at various locations. This particular release was recorded in a forest at night. Now by this description this should have a touch of Blair Witch Project creepiness about it, and sure enough there is a Quicktime video file that shows the forest where the recordings were made. That video is indeed quite spooky, but I wish I could say the same about the music, which if you didn't know the origin you wouldn't know the significance. Anyways it's interesting to note that each track has the frequency used and the recording time listed. So obviously this is a carefully constructed document. And it sounds about as good as most previous experiments using short wave (Philip Best's early Consumer Electronics work notwithstanding...) So an interesting experiment from K11 that might have been fun doing, for sure. The results actually turn out to be quite decent ambient-noise music that (funny enough) work well as night listening.
