AUN - VII [Important Records - 2010]AUN is a husband and wife duo from Canada very heavily inspired by SunnO))). In spite of the confusing title this is actually their ninth record. Named after an ancient Swedish king, with very mystical cover art, this has been described as "ambient metal" but to these ears this is more like "shoegaze metal" which isn't a bad thing... I say that as the guitar is very heavily processed in the My Bloody Valentine style, except with a bit of a heavier sound. There is a drummer on three of the five tracks here, and some analog synth and Peter Hook-style bass on the track "Falcon", which reminds me of something from New Order's Movement album. I hear some of the musical theories of La Monte Young and Tony Conrad in there someplace as well. So expect an intriguing mix of sounds from AUN VII. Let these metallic drones take you to some very strange and surreal places...
