Terminal Erection - Putrefaction [Toxic Industries - 2010]

Terminal Erection is the more 'walled'  harsh noise project of long term(well since 2003, which is long term for noise) Italian noise maker and pervert Nicola Vinciguerra(whose also in the creative yet perverse Power electronics project Fecalove & often more surreal/ horror filled noise collective  of Splinter vs. Stalin). “Putrefaction” is the projects fourth release.

On offer here are two untitled tracks with each hiting around the thirty minute mark a piece. Both tracks have a very ‘wallish’ feel to many of there textures and thick battering, but to my mind this is better defined as Harsh noise with some HNW dwells. You see each track is fairly active and moving, sure ‘wall’s sometimes do take root for up to a few minutes at a time, but pretty swiftly another element will be added or the texture will shift.

The first track opens with a film dialogue sample which says “I want him to taste death, I want him to smell death” then we smash in with a thick, boiling and roaring noise attack- but just when you think it’s  going to start repeating it self in a ‘wall’ like manner Vinciguerra adds on new layers of  noise tone, muffled dialogue recordings and shifts to another thick web of noise. Along the way of the track we touch down in: smaller wheel like judders and knocks which are buried beneath churning industrial static grain, or roaring and billow competing layers of roast texture, ect . The  same ‘Walls’ do return and there are noise themes that are recurrent here, but for me there’s just too much movement and textured shift to be called purely HNW.

The second  track starts very promising with an intense almost overloaded gabba type juddering ‘wall’ of noise, but pretty soon the thickness lessen and Vinciguerra starts mixing-in junk noise forks, sudden speeded moments, muffled and looped old film music & dialogue.  Like the first track it’s enjoyable enough, but I just wish he’d stay in the groove or lock down into one set of noise textures or ‘walls’ because it becomes quite frustrating when along comes a great and thick texture map- then he pulls it away from under you, just when your really starting to dig it.

It really it depends on what you after to how much you’ll enjoy “Putrefaction”- if like me your expecting purely HNW you'll be  disappointed and frustrated here. But if you after Harsh noise with the ‘Wallish’ dwells then I’m sure you’ll find lots here to enjoy and dig, because at the end of the day Vinciguerra a great noise maker.
