The Project _Pale - Our Inventions And How They Fail Us [Ohm Resistance - 2009]

The Project_ Pale sound is a dense, heady, atmospheric and often memorable mixture of: Synth Rock, Post- rock, doomed metallic’s and electronica with hints of shoe gazing and industrial edger’s. Our Inventions and How They Fail Us is this three New York pieces debut album.

The thing that hits you first about the whole album is the wonderful deep ‘n’ dense production with the guitars and synth’s meshing into this meaty powerful sound that mangers to be weighty and crashing, yet still melodic and atmospheric. The bands sound is difficult to pigeon-hole as theres a rich mixture of genre traits with-in their sound; but I guess the best attempt at compassion would be a meeting of  Justin Broderick’s Jesus, with 80’s Tangerine Dream/ John Carpenter synth throb, meets doomy pop sensibility. Another band that comes to mind is Type O Negative around October Rust album, with the thick mixture of synth tone and guitars that’s harmonic yet weighty and atmosphric. But comparison are all well and good but really the band have managed to carve out their own distinct sonic personality that’s heavy, memorable, epic and often powerful forlorn.

All told Our Inventions and How They Fail Us is an impressive debut release that showcases the bands weighty, memorable and distinctive sound. Sure a few tracks here do sound a little samey, but at the end of the day this is their opening shot. With out a doubt a band that I’m sure are destined for great things .
