La Ira de Dios - Cosmos Kaos Destruction [ - 2008]Hawkwind to early Monster Magnet, but that wouldn't be giving the band their just due. " /> | La Ira de Dios are a Peruvian band with a penchant for some of the heaviest, most punked out space rock to come down the pike in recent memory. The band is known for their extended jams, but Cosmos Kaos Destruction changes direction, opting for a shorter, more concise tunes. I could lazily refer to their music as "stoner rock" because of some similarities to forebears from Hawkwind to early Monster Magnet, but that wouldn't be giving the band their just due. The progression to shorter songs works well for La Ira De Dios for a few reasons. The aggressive, fast, riff laden tunes have a sense of urgency which pushes them out of the realm of typical heavy-pysch and into a realm which sounds like an unholy union between Motorhead and the Flower Travellin' Band. The energy level these guys put forth is impressive, which of course is a good portion of what makes any rock album worth hearing. And despite the clouds of pot smoke surrounding these tunes, they are sharply written, and fluidly performed. It's hard to imagine why La Ira De Dios haven't been the recipiants of world-wide attention up until now, but maybe this album will help to remedy that. Erwin Michelfelder
