Heavensore - Asmodai [Utech Records - 2008]

Asmodai rather nicely alternates between being grim, strange and skull crushingly heavy. Mixing  together bone snapping doom dischargers, chugs and crawls; bleakly punked intent, with murky, arty and strange sound making/ guitar scaping, doomy and ritual air with cello and organ weaves and drones and the odd peppering of noise matter.

The tracks here seem to run, crash and melt into each other meaning this feels like one long crushing and strange trip, it actually often feels like the soundtrack for a trip to a barbaric yet dank and murky alien planet. The tracks going from sombre and strange, to back snapping riff weighted- but they always have this grim alien & other feeling running through out the material. As the music slips, slides and crushers vocally we go from: bleeding sandpapered growls, down to mournful Celtic Frost like moans, along with damned and wavering chanted vocals appearing here and there in the grey and violent folds of the music.

Asmodai is a wonderful damned, strange and heavy suite of songs, which are topped off with excellent grim black, earthy & sinister artwork.
