Windy & Carl - Songs for the broken Hearted [Kranky - 2008]

Songs For The Broken Hearted sits wonderful between shimmering slow-core with smudged /haunted vocals and ambient guitar /synth scapes. With the album as a whole working as a wonderful sonic distillation of emotional sadness and break down in the autumnal seasons.

This is music that is pitched perfectly for lonely & completive walks through red, orange and yellow leaf fallen forest in September or October; Your mind hovering in the sad decline of nature as well as possible emotional upsets or relasonships break-ups. With the slow sonic revolutions of the  guitar & synth leaving you captured like a rabbit in headlights of its melancholy wonder. The female vocals are mainly rubbed into the sound scapes acting more as a sonic component to heighten the feeling of loss and decline then legible & understandable vocals. Mostly the album seems to shimmering  in the same weary pre-dusk autumnal sad wonder; with only a few tracks flickering with semi brighter tones like hazy sunlight sparkling through dead  leaf heavy trees or  like the first snow fall from grey yellowed skies.

A must have item for any drone or ambient heads or those who enjoy sombre yet beautiful and haunted music. Songs for the broken Hearted is an album that’s rich in contemplative and often sad wonder and high with real emotional power and depth.
