The Skull Defekts - DFX [Cut Hands - 2008]

With DFX The Skull Defekts return with two long atmospheric, subdued violent and bleakly focused tracks of noisy and grimy electronics meets downturned rock- proving once more that they may be a prolific project, but they always give quality and consistence with each & every release.

The cd comes packaged in a rather nice screen printed three colours on black card stock sleeve making it one of the most eye catching packaging in the bands discography. Anyway getting on to the music the first untitled track starts with sinister low down cyber chatter before drifting into a bleak and growing throbbing and grimly harmonic tone that appears to be a mix of guitar feedback and synth drone, as the track goes on they subtle and atmospherically add in more bleak cyber chatter, droning and throbbing tones, bell like layer of soundand noise textures really giving the track quite a gothic yet violent just under the surface feel to it.

The second track starts with clouds of echoed and looped voices before dropping down into a slowly ‘n’ doomy collection of electronic throbs and purrs that are noisy yet at the same time darkly harmonic. The track like the first builds and builds the sonic tension with adding on more and layers of voices, electro throbs, drags and smarts but it never becomes all out noise, keeping it’s tension filled knife edge vibe perfectly. Moving on from the horror lined and a little gothic feel of the first track this feels deep in atmospheric paranoid like a bad and grimy audio acid trip that burrows right into the core of your being.

The Skull Defekts are one of the best atmospheric noisy electronic/ rock  projects around and with each new release they seem to better and grow there looped grimy electro nightmares. Really unmissble either if you a long term devotee or new to The Skull Defekts cause, but sadly this criminally ltd to 100 copies, so it’s a case of act very quick or regret it.
