Darsombra - Eternal Jewel [Public Guilt - 2008]Eternal Jewel is a collection of atmospheric and cinematic guitar scapes primal composed on Baritone Guitar. Mixing together doom, metal and ambient elements to creating dramatic and mysterious guitar based instrumental unfolds. Darsombra is the experimental solo project of Brian Daniloski(Meatjack,Trepine & SUCKPiG) this is the projects second release. The tracks through showing their doom and metal grain are for the most part fairly subdued, Daniloski settles on a pattern of notes or harmonics and lets them unfold off into the horizon in there atmospheric expanse. The tracks are also fairly striped down sonically more often than not it’s just one guitar on it’s own as the main focus to which Daniloski pulls and pushers it’s tones with sustain and effects peddles. So really I think this is going to appeal more to ambient and expansive guitar heads, than your doom or metal fan. An passable effort with some creative and memorable atmospheres. Though at times I felt he was settling to often on repeat the same sonic tricks & reusing melodies. He really needs to expand his sound pallet a bit more on future release, as this in places gets a little boring.    Roger Batty
