Circle - Rakennus [Ektro Records - 2008]

Rakennus shows Circle in their live element, rocking, genre mixing and general Circle weird and wonderfulness- the whole hour long recording is taken from last years performance in Charlottesville USA.

With only Tulilintu from 2005’s Tulikoira been familiar to me (though I’ve only heard 6 or so circle albums) these all new tracks to me. Going from the 80’s fist punching power rock with over blown metal vocals meets bizarre harmonica  freak-out of the opener Uusi uhraus. To the blues meets Indian rain dance rock meets warm piano wonderings of Tunhat thats topped off with bizarre metal mumbling to lite operatic vocals. To the roving overblown 70’s rock meets The Residents like keyboard oddness, meets spacey effect licked bass runs of Virsi, we can only be in the company of Circle. In all there are eight tracks on offer here which are fairly short & sweet for Circle lasting between five to ten minutes apiece, having I guess more of a rocking and structured theme running through them for the main.

Not one for newbie’s to the church of Circle but long time disciples will find a lot to worship at here and it’s comes with an booklet of suitable odd and random pictures from  their time in the sates
