Reverend Beat-Man - Surreal Folk Blues- Gospel Trash Vol 2 [Voodoo Rhythm - 2008]

Reverend Beat-man makes foot tapping, shit kicking, shambolick and often quite funny mix of punk, blues, rock ‘n’ roll & country. Having  a singing voice & talking tone akin to a mix of  GG. Allen, Nick Cave and Jello Biafra –  if you can imagine that.

Reverend Beat-man persona is that of a Reverent turned to Satan, sex drugs and rock and roll, coming from Sweden but sounding more american than anything else. Playing mostly everything himself & seemingly playing as a one-man band in live format. We’ve get a mix of churning and slamming electric guitar, drums, raw strummed acoustic guitars, harmonica, banjo & bastardised church organ. To which he rants, raves, shouts and talks/ preachers over the top of, talking about Satan, incest, damnation and all manner of sleaze. Most of the songs are of his own demented making, though there’s a great eye bulging, thigh slamming version of the Blue Grass Classic Blue Moon of Kentucky- with all manner of destructive sound samples over the overheated banjo barn stomping backing & Reverend Beat-Man vocal attack.

The tracks are kept short and sweet for the most part, with only the last talky, demented and highly funny track The swish Arm Knife going near to the seven minute mark. An album that’s guaranteed to crack a smile, full of memorable rough ‘n’ ready songs soaked with Reverend Beat-man persona.
