Phragments - The Burning World [The Eastern Front - 2007]

The Burning world is a moody and apocalyptic meeting of neo-classical grander, doomy cinematics, slight techno touches & crunching fuzzed industrial beat work, with traces of distorted singing here and there too. Though hardly the most original thing you’re likely to come across it does manger to conjure up quite a dramatic & enjoyable air.

The disk is packaged in a rather nice laminated A5 folder & adorned with a close up of a feather and various hints at angels of the dammed- which sets off nicely the clearly apocalyptic tone of the music found inside. This often brings to mind the galloping of the four horse men just before mankind’s fall as cities burn, populations weep and scream. The pace for the most part is kept fairly up beat & the relatively snappy in their execution- it certainly keeps you entertained even if it’s somewhat clichéd in places.

Certainly worth a look if you enjoy atmospheric and memorable beat driven & dramatic string swooned/sawed  music- just don’t expect it to reinvent the wheel
