Rv Paintings - Trinity Rivers [Root Strata - 2007]Rv Paintings debut album Trinity Rivers is a side project of one half of the Staving weirdios core Brian Pyle with help from his brother Jon and fellow soundscape investigator Spence, they offer up a more conventional and going towards normal musical based set of guitar drone textures than the SW. Offering up three tracks in all each lasting between just over ten minutes and fifteen a piece and each following a similar oscillating and spreadig drone texture feeling with a mix of acoustic and electric guitar craft, drumset, glasses, slit drum and fog like layers of sound. For the most part it does manger to create it’s own hypnotic and rewarding sound world giving the feeling of endless rotating and shifting Kaleidoscopic swampland photos and fog shrouded seacapes. Though at times this feels like a more simplified and less daring take on the SW’s sound, the best way to enjoy this is to set it apart from the SW and approach it as a different, less messed-up and more reality based trip. One of my favourite moments here is the second track fitting entitled Mad river which opens up with a looped Riech like guitar and percussion pattern that rather brought to mind spinning round and round on a fast running river, towards the end it drifts into slow tinkling tones & circle of bird and water sounds. Another bow to Mr Pyle impressive musically and sound bow that will be of interest to of course SW fans, but also those who found the SW a bit too out-there, mind-altering and would like an slightly easier ride.
