Krypt Axeripper - Mechanical Witch [Ektro Records - 2007]

With a name like Krypt Axeripper you know things are going to be just a little tongue-in-cheek,& what you get with Mechanical Witch is a wonderful retro devil worshiping 80’s metal riff fest with the odd touches of horror movie synth throb & buzz. With the main evil master mind behind the project been Circle bass player Jussi.

The songs are built  around chugging memorable & head banging  prime evil riff craft with the odd touches of 70’s prog metal guitar craft. It’s all topped off with over the top strange tuneful and a little geeky vocals that sing about Lucifer & dark fantasy elements in quite comical & often very funny manner. But this is no limp parody project- there’s a real love of cheesy 80’s metal & a real understanding of how to make short sharp stick-in-your- head tunes that dart here & there with evil sounding synth elements. Jussi has managed to give the whole thing a very distinctive & quirky sound all of its own that doesn’t really sound much like Circle. The only negative here is the four tracks on offer only last  just over 10 minutes in total! which does leave one feeling rather short changed, but I guess it’s better to have four great tracks and no filler.

One of course for circle fans, but also for retro metal heads that like to have a laugh while head banging, hopefully a full length will be following in the near future.
