Nemezis - Inbetween [Vivo Records - 2007]Nemezis are a polish electronica/ beat-bound project that will appeal to those who enjoy easy melodic yet inventive music, thats littered with retro references and textures. If you have enjoyed the likes of Daft Punk, Royksopp, Air, etc- you’ll find much to get your teeth into here. The electronic beat patterns go from wide-eyed electro, to dubby and hip-hop influenced, to more laid back yet still foot taping variety. They weave and bound to the beats warm retro synth melodies, sampled musical textures from string swoons, to guitar nudges ,to sax wailings, to Hammond organ throbs. Layering in multiple voice/ singing snippets and the odd robot like voice element too. This is hardly world shattering original & never really goes too far into more experimental waters, but it’s an enjoyable enough if safe ride, managing to keep your attention through-out with each tracks twist and turns and the fine melodic sensibilities on display through-out. An inoffensive easy going electronica album, perfect when you’re in the mood for something tuneful & beat bound, but don’t want to think about it too much. Roger Batty
