Go to the Assorted performers website  Assorted performers - Ghos Busters III [Record Label Records - 2007]

This CD with peculiar artwork is a presentation of the artists on the label going by the peculiar name of Record Label Records. The 'sampling' of a picture on the sleeve may well be a hint to the music herein.

There's a very diverse array of artists present, who all share the use of samples (well, not literally, Fluorescent Grey for instance boasts of 'no samples used, 100 % synthesis', but you have to know that, which can be taken as a compliment of course) but with all kinds of results. Overall the music is more or less abstract. If Kush Aurora brings in a hindi-flavoured beat, Dalglish puts an end to the toetap with something irregular-but-what-seems-to-be-groovy. Sote's mysterious Persian electronics are found in two tracks, one of the better tracks from his album Dastgaah as well as a new one. Labelboss Robby Martin contributed two tracks with his Fluorescent Grey project. I Am A Photograph Of My Old Driveaway… being a whirlwind of found sounds and samples, sculpted into something Aphex Twin-ish, 1982 Children's Show Physically Modeled more open with out-of-place gamelan mixed with some mean electronics. Kossak comes up with a reggae-tinged piece called Four He's Two She's. An apparently strange combination with the disturbing sounds coming from Swiss avantgarde artist Rudolf Eb.er's unique world of sound. His project Runzelstirn & Gurgelstøck and Farmers Manual are the 'wellknown' names here, I guess.

With the diversity of the artists in mind this compilation is surprisingly coherent. Apart from being electronic quite a few artists refer to music from Indonesia, Iran and India, without becoming your typical Buddha Bar worldmusic-type stuff but putting it in a more experimental context. So apart from it being a nice way to get acquainted with the music that's available from Record Label Records, Ghos Busters III also is a very amusing listening experience. As a bonus there's a data part on the cd which has patches for music applications like Maxmsp, Reaktor and Kyma.
