King Futile - How To Have Fun [Kovorox Sound - 2025]

How To Have Fun is the second release from Lea  Cummings( Kylie Minoise, Official Music Team, etc), lo-fi/ outsider folk project King Futile.  It takes in another eight tracks, and really, it sees him pushing even further the tongue-in-cheek/ glum/ sarcastic lyrical edge.

Once again, this is a CDR release- put out by Lea’s own label, Kovorox Sound.  The disc comes presented in a photocopied sleeve, with white Sharpie writing against a grey backdrop. The release can be found  here

We go the steady, yet rough ‘n’ ready strum of “Fucking Sophisticated” topped with barrenly sing-song vocals, detailing modern sophisticated living.  There’s the swerving ‘n’ swirling groove of “Man’s Best Friend” With Lea listing all manner of dogs that have bitten him.

Later, on there’s slowly slugging & bleak strumming of “Anti- Depressant Blues”- as his steady warble & wavering out the name of several anti-depressant drugs.  The almost tuneful/ though fairly blunt strut of “I Did It All For You”. The album plays out with shambling  ‘n’ wandering instrumental strummings of “Zelda 2”.

If you either enjoyed the first King Futile album or cynical/ darkly amusing outside/ lo-fi folk- you’ll enjoy what  How To Have Fun has to offer.
