Koobaatoo Asparagus - Purely Visuals [No Skinny Jeans - 2026]Pure Visuals is a forty-minute slab of dense 'n' cranium-churning walled noise from this highly prolific/long-running California project. The track is simple/ set in its attack and form, though it works very effectively as a world-blocking-out sonic mass, which I found oddly soothing. This is a self-released affair, and is available as either a limited CDR or digital download. I’m reviewing the latter. For the cover artwork, we have a photo collage, which brings together folks having sex, and what looks like some form of religious pulpit. The album can be found here.
The single track featured here rolls in at dead on the forty-minute mark. The ‘wall’ is constructed around a constantly churning/ lightly mechanical-like knocking drone, which is ribbed by this rattling/ slightly crisp judder. The track is both very thick/ crushing, yet at the same time oddly relaxing in its attack. And you can either lock onto/ follow the simple layer patterns, or just let it all engulf/ envelop you.
I’m sure that Koobaatoo Asparagus must be breaking some form of record for consistently putting out noise for so long, as it truly feels like each week there is yet another release on the project's Bandcamp....and this has been going on for years. Pure Visuals is another simple yet damn effective release from the project. Roger Batty
