Raté - Foutu [Self release - 2025]Foutu is a recent four-track album from Bordeaux-based Raté . It’s another sonic journey into hope-numbing/nihilistically battering walled noise from the project. Each track comes in at just shy of fifteen minutes, and each is as unforgiving/ unrelenting as the other. This, like most of this project's output, is a digital self-release. For the cover art, we get a rather murky photo of several clear pipes/ cable ties, and some form of white liquid- not sure what these items are, but as the English translation of the release title is Fucked-up, so the mind really boggles. The release can be found here.
We open with “Foutu 1”, here we find a rather chaotic mix of galloping low-end/mid-end rush, which is edged by rumbling bay and buried/ pummelling knock. Next, we have “Foutu 2”, here we find a selection of low-end rapid buffeting tones, meeting the searing rush of thinner hisses.
“Foutu 3 “ is all about a scrubbing rush of low-end rattle, roll, and roast- with this is set rolling grain hiss, with what sounds like subterranean knockings appearing from time to time in the ‘wall’. Finally, we of course have “Foutu 4” here, we find a thick, constant bass rushing, meeting cluttering grain sear- again, there is a feeling of malevolent rumble here & there.
As a release, Foutu is another unforgiving ride from Raté- that tightly pins you down, and brutally rages at you, never giving up or letting go until the end. Roger Batty
