No Fun HNW - Cranial Collapse [Filthy Sounds Recordings - 2025]Cranial Collapse is a decidedly swirling, yet crude/ nasty take on the walled noise form. The dead-on, twenty-minute track adds in a sparse/ buried spoken word element to create an extra layer of unease to the proceedings. No Fun HNW is the project of South Carolina’s Krys Marshall- and has been active for the last year, focusing on the more crude/ nasty/ unforgiving side of the walled noise sound. I’m not entirely sure how many releases it’s had thus far, but I’m guessing it must range in the twenties/thirties.
This is a YouTube release, which can be found here. Artwork-wise, we have a lo-fi monochrome photo of a person with a huge/ deep scar down one side of their head.
The single track is built around a dense, layered blend of chugging, swirling, and bass-bound billowing wall-craft. Ever so often, this voice can be heard saying one word- which I think is ‘Control’. There is most certainly an amorphous feel to the wall, as the patterns are seemingly constant blurring/ shifting- though ever so often we get a short hacking/ chugging tone- though this may just be a modified version of the single repeated word element.
Cranial Collapse is a very apt title for this release, as it truly feels like it’s either pressing down or expanding your head from the inside. For those who enjoy wall noise head mowings- where brain matter & bone may be churned up. Roger Batty
