Koobaatoo Asparagus - Trashy [No Skinny Jeans - 2025]Trashy serves up two fifteen-minute slices of terminally battering & bleak-walled noise, with a sleazy theme. If you’ve investigated the wall noise genre beyond known names like Vomir, The Rita, or Richard Ramirez. You’ll probably be aware of this California project, as it most certainly is one of the most prolific projects in the scene. This, as with most releases from this project, appears as a digital-only affair on No Skinny Jeans Records, which is Koobaatoo Asparagus's own label. Cover artwork, we get a picture of two stocking and suspenders-dressed women sitting near dust bins. The release is here
Both tracks are self-titled, so the first, “Trashy”, is built around a speeding/ crude billow, which is topped by a galloping/ rushing/ searing tone blend. It feels akin to holding on for dear life to a huge space rocket that is powered up, your body buffeted and bucked like a rag doll. The ‘wall’ is both very urgent & intense- yes, it’s fairly simplistic, rather lacking sonic trickery- but if you're looking for face skin searing walling- this will most certainly fit that need.
The second “Trashy “ finds a blunt, though still rapid bass tone, being surrounded by a few layers of buffing, cluttering, and baying tone. If the first track was the firing up on the rocket, this is it going at a full limb, face, and general skin ripping/melting intensity. At points, it feels like it may turn into a shapeless whiteout, but it never does.
Trashy is a take-no-prisoners walled noise- for those looking to sonically pinned, then well and truly roasted. Roger Batty
