Raté - 765cJ [Self release - 2025]765cJ finds this Bordeaux-based wall noise project presenting us with a rather mysterious/subtle unsettling wall. The single track runs for just eighteen minutes, moving from a jarring/uneasy start, to the dense swirling disorientation main. As with most of the wall noise underground, this release is digital. I’m not normally freaked out by cover artwork, but this one made me somewhat uneasy as it’s of a greenly inverted picture of some reptilian creature. The release can be found here.
So the single self-titled track opens with the unsettling high to mid picth baying, which may have come from the weird long-necked creature on the front of the disc. Fairly soon, we drive into a full/ dense mix of bass trudging, thick static buffet tones, and a selection of cluttering/ rattling tones.
Imagery-wise wise I’m getting standing in a wind tunnel- which is hung with strange, ripped, and soiled fabric, and ever so often one seems to catch sight of an odd dart shape, or eerier blinking eye.
I’ve now played/ reviewed quite a few of Raté’ release, and more often than not there’s a fairly original twist/ vibe to each, and 765cJ is no exception as it blends uneasy visuals, with darts of jarring unease & thick walling. Roger Batty
