Jacek Doroszenko - R_sin _io [Audiobulb Records - 2025]With just two tracks, together coming in at exactly fifteen minutes, Jacek Doroszenko's R_sin _io is clearly a prolegomenon to something much bigger. What that is, or might look like, is not the subject here, though, but it is worth mentioning given the length and scope of R_sin _io. Doroszenko privileges the spatial and contextual specificities of the sites where his music is both captured and played back. For the current two pieces, it was a chemical factory in the Czech Republic, though the environmental idiosyncrasies are not readily apparent (nor should they be, since the music is not projected there). Each of the two pieces highlights a different sensibility and technical acumen – the first an atmospheric swell sans rhythm and the second a more pulsating beast complete with low-end goodness.
The raw material was collected in field recordings of the above-mentioned site, but the evolution of those captures through the roughly 7 minutes on each cut is juicy and deeply rewarding. While self-contained, the two compositions play well side by side, parading Doroszenko's tact as a synthesist, pulling sound sources when necessary and giving them a warm and generous treatment. The overall feel is one of an invitation rather than a calculating survey, where I can only surmise that the industrial site would be transformed into an entirely different scale – listenable and approachable.
For fans of warm ambient works that sit comfortably between the organic space of listening and the inorganic toolkit of circuits and their voltages. Others already familiar with Doroszenko's work will be moved to the edge of their seat, as I was, in anticipation of the larger thing to come. Very highly recommended! Colin Lang
