Damien De Coene - once again give but take, because you know. Ego mo [Self release - 2024]Here’s a new forty-four-minute example of hope-numbing walled noise from Spain’s Damien De Coene. The digital self-release is both rapidly rolling & greyly stark in its attack, and is primed perfectly for bleak entrancement. Artwork wise we get a selection of hazed/ blurred yellow, grey, and black shapes-I’m not sure what they are meant to be, but they perfectly fit the vibe/ theme of the wall within. The release can be found & downloaded here.
The single track comes in at the forty-four minute and twenty-one-second mark. The ‘wall’ is built around a rapidly rolling grey drone, which is wrapped in a paired back skipping static tone. The whole thing rather sounds akin to being swiftly dragged along by an ageing aircraft- as it just slides over a grey unchanging landscape- with your eyebrows and fingertips rippling with numbing static. The two elements are blended perfectly for a stark yet rapid effect, and I was totally locked in for the ‘walls’ full length- and to be honest I could have easily listened to a wall twice this length.
De Coene is not the most prolific of wall noise creators- releasing things ever so often/ whenever he fancies it. And, once again give but take, because you know. Ego most go eastern, is another very worthwhile example of his brand of barrenly numbing wall-making Roger Batty
