Autovolum - The Vacuum Demands Your Demise [HNW Netlabel - 2024]

Here we have just under an hour's worth of sucked-into-void sonics. The single track sits somewhere between dense walled noise and oppressive drone craft, and boy does it drain all of the other sound & hope from your listening space.

The release is a digital-only album on  London’s HNW label. With the cover artwork features what looks like a picture of a black hole. It can be heard/ downloaded here

Autovolum is a relatively new Hungarian project forming in late 2023- going by their Bandcamp they have seven releases to their name, and all of these seemingly have an out-of-space/ grimly cosmic/void-focused theme. Behind it is Daniel Kozma- who has been active in noise since the early 2010s- with his most notable/ known wall project being Necrotik Fissure.

The single self-titled track rolls in at the 59.57 mark. It’s an extremely dense ‘wall’ constructed around a mixture of shredding ‘n’ pummelling mid-ranged texture noise, and thick/ blunt drone matter. Together these elements are tightly pressed together to form a seamless & lightless mass of sound.  There is a certain machine/ industrial quality deep within the ‘wall’- yet these never become too pronounced/ overbearing- with the tracks focus been void sucking tarry blackness, and by the time it’s over you well & truly feel overwhelmed & weighted down by the pure sonic weight/ density.
At points, it feels like there may be some shift/ movement within the mass- like watching a black-as-night monster snake slowly move. But I think much of this sensation/ seeming shift is created by a trick of the ‘wall’, as your mind tries to find a way out of this dense sonic mass.

The Vacuum Demands Your Demise is a perfect title for this release. It’s certainly not for those who like detailed & creative walling- this is pure brain and head-numbing attack on the sonic senses.
