Damien De Coene - Maden [Self release - 2024]Maden is a thirty-minute slab of dense, tarry, and tunnelling walled noise from Flanders-based Damien De Coene- who has been active on & off in the wall scene since the late 2010s. This is a self-released digital release. For the cover artwork- we get what looks like a hazed/out-of-focus picture of some kind of black rock/coal-like material. You can find the release here.
The single self-titled track comes in dead on the thirty-minute mark. With it being a fairly simplistic- yet rapidly brutal wall of noise. It’s built around a blend of a rolling ‘n’ tunnelling roast, cluttering crunch, and slightly scuttling hiss. It feels akin to being strapped onto top of some huge and ageing machinal drilling craft- as tarry grit, searing air, and the occasional stone pelt batters your upturned face. With the whole thing having a taunt & focused rush about its attack. It's always great to hear new material from Mr De Coene. And Maden which most certainly appeal to those looking for a good searing & focused rush of thick, rapid, and nasty wall-craft.
