Noisehz - Snow Comfort [HNW Netlabel - 2024]Here we have a just under forty-minute example of the walled noise from Michigan-based noisehz. The sound here is of the more textured & layered side of the genre, and as its title suggests there is rather a snowbound vibe to the proceedings. The release appears on London’s HNW records- featured on its cover is a picture of a snow-covered garden with an off-green pastel frame around it. The release can be found just here
The untitled track slides in at twelve seconds over the thirty-eight-minute mark. The ‘wall’ opens with a fairly loud rattling of a passing snow plough-like tones. As it unfolds things settle down into a central mixture of evenly treading on snow-like tones- though these are sped beyond human speed- with my mind picturing a speedily pacing robot making its way through the crisp & virgin white. This man element is underfed this by a distanced/ faint mixture of trailing skate, bitter wind bay, and very subtle glistening ‘n’ sparking ambience. There’s a nicely subdued industrial undertones to the whole thing- with one's mind-shifting effectively between the sounds at the forefront and back of the wall as the minutes tick by. Also, there are effective moments of disorientating when the layers faze or shift out ever so often
The noisehz project started at some time last year, and has to date coming on for twenty releases to its name. Snow Comfort is my first taster of the projects work, and I must say I like what I hear- as the textures used are fairly original, and the way the ‘wall’ is presented is appealing in its layering/ balance of textures Roger Batty
