Angry With Noise - the mysterious life and death of the triple agent [Self release - 2023]This rather lengthily entitled release severs up two fifteen-minute examples of rapid ‘n’ ripping textured noise from Rome’s Angry With Noise. All making for an appealing manic trip into active wall-craft. The release is themed around the rather mysterious death of George Weisz- a triple agent, who spent time in the CIA , NKVD( a pre-KGB organization), and the Department of Energy. He was found dead in November 1982 in Maryland, and on the surface it seemed like a suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning- though there were two different handwriting styles on the suicide note, and a few other things didn’t add up.
The thirty-minute album is a self-release- and like many of the scenes releases of late it’s just a digital download. With the monochrome front cover takes in a picture of a slummed-in-shades figure( which I’m guessing is Mr Weisz). The release can be found here
Both tracks run at dead on the fifteen-minute, and the first self-titled track brings together a rapid & highly manic blend of ranged pull, drags, saws and rubs- which ever so often add in high-pitched swipes ‘n’ slices, as well as the odd hiss too. It’s a wonderful overwhelming bit of textured noise- and if you attempt to try and follow a single pattern it really does cause quite a dizzying effect. Though the whole thing is very active in its flow- it stays within set selected selection of textures.
The second self-titled track has a similar flow/ feel to it. But adds in more high-pitched swipes, rips, and slices. Once again the whole thing is very wired & manic in its attack- though the mid/ lower ranged tones here have a more slurred/pulled-out quality about them. And once again it makes for a rewarding slice of darting ‘n’ shifting textured noise.
I’ve always been a sucker for true crime textured/ walled noise so from the off this appealed to me- then the ‘walls’ themselves are nicely shifting & brain working in their effect. I believe this is my first taster of Angry With Noise work- but it most certainly won’t be my last!. Roger Batty
