Dead Housewife - Jane Doe [Gates of Hypnos - 2023]Jane Doe is a single-track release from this new wall noise project from Heede, Germany. The digital release features a thirty-one-minute wall, which sits between unsettling ANW & textured noise side of the walled noise genre. The release appears on Poland’s Gates of Hypnos. Its cover artwork features a grainy monochrome photo of a woman smiling- and I’m guessing by the release title, and the rather aged/ haunted look of the picture- it’s of someone either lost or a victim of crime. The release can be found just here.
The self-titled track opens with a thickly knitted weave of rattling drag, crackle ‘n’ dart, rush, and light bass buffer. From time to time I make out a lightly tumbling & eerie drone shuffling & ebbing through the 'wall'. At points it’s all seemingly slowing, and at others, the drone feels like it’s getting even more haunted. Imagery wise I’m getting slowly sped-up footage of an undiscovered corpse becoming weaved with ropes of tight vegetation.
Looking at the projects Bandcamp it seems they have another two releases to their name, with a true crime theme to each. So as I’m a sucker for both wall noise & HNW, I’ll be most certainly checking those out in the near future.
If you have a penchant for detailed, dense, and uneasy wall making then Jane Doe will be for you. And I look forward to checking out more of Dead Housewife's forthcoming work. Roger Batty
