Wet Dream Asphyxiation — Baser
The wonderfully named Wet Dream Asphyxiation is an Oregon based HNW project that has seemingly been in existence since mid 2012. The project has so far amassed around 16 or so releases taking in tapes, cdrs & splits.
The two CDRs come in a double see through DVD case, and the cover features a black & white sliced up like college type artwork. And on the back cover there’s a old picture of a dead cow on it’s back with a farmer standing beside it, the reverse cover takes in what looks like layers of old newspaper print,a photograph of a dazed looking women, and a weird double headed beast….quite what it all means, I’m not really sure but Altar of Wastes write up about the album says it’s themed around Questions of alien abductions, astral projection, cross-dimensionality, and the myriad relationships conspiratorial relationships.
To add even more mystery & puzzlement to the release both track here are bizarrely named “Bling”. The first discs track starts with what I presume is an African American man talking about temporal soul systems, a vortex, constellations, solar systems, and extraterrestrial beings before saying ‘hey girl can you say Bling Bling!”. Then we’re into the ‘wall’ which is a very loud yet clear mixture of: roaring ‘n’ juddering lower-to-mid range noise, billowing & jittering static shredding, and roaming ‘n’ roaring low-end noise texturing. WDA threads & mixes these tones into this extremely dense ‘wall’ which has this wonderful cascading, churning & slowly shredding quality to it. The ‘wall’ remains extremely thick through-out, yet there is a feeling of subtle shifting often over the tracks length- this could actually be happening or it’s just a trick of the ‘wall’ it’s self, but which ever it is this is a very effective & entrancing bit of wall-making.
Disc two’s track starts once again with the African American gentleman talking about having close encounters, before the ‘wall’ slams in like a battering & complex storm. Once again the ‘walls’ is very clear & loud in it’s feel, and once again it mixes together a selection of closely weaved together noise textures- we have a mass of jittering & showering mid-ranged static, a billowing ‘n’ bubbling low- end judder/purr, and a few hissing sub-tones. This ‘wall’ seems a little less shifting ‘n’ churning in it’s feel, with a more endlessly cascading & downwardly flowing, yet the ‘wall’ remains firm & thick through-out. This is another very captivating & truly engulfing slices of walled noise.
With it’s dense, clear & brutally cascading/churning take on HNW “Baser” is a most satisfying & quite distinctive take on this most intense of genres. The weird cryptic artwork & samples add another extra interesting edge to proceeds all to make this a very worthwhile & rewarding release
