Vomir/Nascitari — Sameness

While having a clear-up/sort-out at M[m] we came across a few wall noise titles from a few years back, which had slipped through the cracks, and here we have the first of these. It’s an excellent C60 split from 2015 bringing together the taut & shifting textured detail of Italian project Nascitari, with the dense & crude shredding walled noise  power of Frances Vomir

The release appeared on Italian Signor Ward Records- which of course most known for its feet & nylon-themed walled noise releases. But instead of nylon kink, this release seems to be themed around  1972 giallo  Who Saw Her Die? (aka Chi l'ha vista morire)- As its inner sleeve utilizes a still of the black-veiled killer in the film.

Both projects offer up a single side long track, and the first side is taken up by Nascitari track "Lessness". This is a wonderful taut & detailed wall- bringing together a tight weave of juddering & shaking crispness, a blunt & rolling drone undercarriage, and some smaller slicing ‘n’ snapping sub-tones. The track pulls you in from the very start with its complex makeup, and keeps you locked in with its subtly skillful shifts- as the wall progresses layers are pared back & then reinstated,  the pace speed shifts, and we get moody micro detail altering & layer moves. There’s a lumbering-yet- taut persistence about the 'wall' as a whole, and we get a few more pronounced & noticeable shifts- at the mid-way point, we pare right back to a blend of muffled rumble & thin skittering noise. A few minutes after this pare back setting we get a brief sample of a melancholic easy blistering tune, before the ‘wall’ kicks back & this time it's a blend of buffing, rip, and juddering noise- with a swirl grainy haze, and later a line of crude & coarse low-end rip ‘n’ rumble.  Simply put this is a great, great track from Nascitari, and I really wish the project would do more 'wall' work again.

Flipping over to the second side, and we have an Untitled track from Vomir. This ‘wall’ is a crushing & fiercely full blend of rushing roast, rapidly searing ‘n’ feasting judder, and downwardly cascading static rattle. It feels like one is continually falling down a deranged & extreme Helter Skelter- that’s made from rusted & ripped steel, & ribbed with spiral barbwire, and constantly been fed by a steady feed of roasting air. The ‘wall’ has that trademark Vomir crusty crudeness about it, and it makes for a satisfying overloaded companion to the first sides track.

I’ve always been a sucker for walled noise with either giallo  or horror film theme, and sadly these have been thin on the ground in recent years. So it’s great to uncover this release a fresh. All told this is a great split, with both parties offering up suitable mood fitting walls….sadly due to the length of time since this appeared it’s long, long sold out in physical form- but you can still download it from Signor Ward's band camp here
