The release comes in the form of mini 3inch cdr, and this comes in a mini plastic case- artwork wise the cover is fairly minimal, taking in the projects logo & a picture of a vinyl record on the front, and on the back we get two small vinyl record pictures & the labels name. And inside the case, along with the unlabelled disc, we a cream inlay detailing the two tracks running time, when it was recorded ( may 2015), and web links.
As mentioned above the release takes in just two tracks- both of these are untitled, and each comes in around the nine minute mark. Track one is built around two key elements- a low down gurgling ‘n’ organic like rumble, and agitated cave drop like textured- both of these elements have quite a synth quality about them. And together they create a great feeling of inclosing & surrounding alien subterranean-ness, which seems to get more feasting & manic as it progresses- but I think in reality both elements are fairly firm in their patterns, though there maybe are some subtle adjustments here & there.
Track two rather strips things back to the taut & inescapable sonic place, as it brings together a tense continual rolling electro drill/ judder, and this is webbed by a thinner( but no less taut) scraping/circling texture. Once again there is quite a sustain synth feel to the tones, but this time around it’s a lot more pinning & airless in its feeling.
As one would have expected from such a respected & talented pairing this is a great début release, and I do hope we get more from this project. As I really feel this some of the best work Julien has done on his recent forays into focused & unmoving synth like texturing( with projects like Persona & Oscuro), and Clive really adds something nicely taut & airless of his own to the proceedings.
