V.H. — In The Teeth
V.H. is one of the projects of NYC based Patrick Scott who also runs the excellent rhythmic/ ambient/ experiential HNW & noise label Modern Tapes. This is the debut release from the project- with Scott offering a very detailed, active-yet well-nuanced and eventful track
The self-titled track rolls in at 18.08- and from the offset, it’s very busy in its detail and attack, yet the whole thing is recorded in a nicely balanced/ even manner- so one can pick out each of the layers sound make-up & patterns clearly. We have a squiggling like wooden circling, smaller scratching & fidgeting, a scraping rattle & the occasional off pattern scrap/ circle. For some reason, the whole thing brings to mind what a small boat made out of match sticks traveling on a sand sea might sound- as the thin & detailed sails shift & move, and the base scrapes & drags along the sand bound sea- but the whole is speeding up to double speed- so we get a decidedly manic & rapid selection of tone layers been fed at you.
This the third release I’ve heard from the recently set up Tatô, and once again it’s a very distinctive & unique take on the lower case walled noise genre- so I'm very much looking forward to labels next batch. If you like busy, detailed but fairly quiet & well balance lower case composition In The Teeth is most certainly something you’ll be needing to check out.
