V/a — 4 women no Cry Vol 2

This is a four way split album bringing together the talents of four women from across the globe, each with there own sound and identity. As would be expected with something like this the quality does vary, but when this material does shine you need sunglassers, because there’s some real jewels here.

First we have one of the stand outs of this releash Dorit Chrysler, who was  Born In Austria now residing in New York. Dorit tool of sound making is the Theremin and her lush vocals. All the tracks having a wonderful warm retro, from the  Rosemary baby like singing mixed with music box carnival vibe lit and curled by electronics of Spring brezze. It almost brings to mind slowed down over rich colour footage of a merry go round or crowed sixties streets garishly hang with red and green banners. To the slowly creeping aliens are landing firths Theremin vibe of My Sweet Chimera, which soon dips into lush green aquatic splendour, as a harp like sound drifts in. Animoso  with it’s black and white haunted house vibe of rich Theremin and demented female vocals from aroused moans to bone chilling murmurs. Later on  glighty modern electronics appear, that have more than a whiff of voodoo drums gone wrong about them.

Next artist we have is Mico from London, who offers up 3 slices of stretch and bent electronics lit by foreign raping and muilt layered vocals. Some interesting moments though some of it does wonder a little to close to sounding like pop in places, but she does seem to twist and turn the songs on them self’s with all manner of electronics dimples and ripples.

Next we have Monotekktoni from Berlin, who seems to go  musically different places in each of her four tracks. Operation has a flowing river electro fed gamelan like vibe with Monotekktion  vocals sounding like a less muscle Grace Jones . Pappeln finds slow and emotional enriched piano, sailing along with miner electro elements and early mourning hours shadows- about the two minute point Monotekktion vocal appears almost emotional confused at first then seeming to firm things up as the piano finds it’s strenght.

Lastly we have Iris from Barcelona, she returns to more defined electro terrain, but with some rather neat cut up, stop and start air about the songs; melodic elements appear before been crunched by off side beat hits or synths coming in at strange angles. All of her four have something to offer- the pace  and musically air changing through out, throwing the listener off balance constantly. A really rather rewarding collection of electro tuneful chaos.

A varied and  often rewarding collection showing of the talents of four female artist,  that is worth the price of entry for Dorit Chrysler and Iris  tracks alone, with the other tow artist having enough to make there material worthwhile.
