Train Cemetery/ Sleep Column — Split

Here’s an untitled split bringing together two of the most notable names in Russian walled noise. Train Cemetery ( aka Elektrostal’s Sergey Pakhomov), and Sleep Column( aka Ivan Sandakov). Each party offers up a single hour-long wall.

The release appears on Kemerovo Oblast, Russian Federation’s Wall Noise Action. And as with much of the scene’s output at present, it comes in the form of a digital download only. Cover art-wise, we have a grimly surreal illustration of pasty faced/ sucken eyed man in a suit, sitting on a bed; on the wall beside is a huge set stare eyed face, which is slightly pressing out into the room.

First up we have Train Cemetery’s “Apostasy “ this is a fairly shifting/ at points very highly detailed example of the wall form. It moves from blends of paired mixes of snap, pop, and judder. Onto a thicker mix of rolling hiss and industrial-tinged chugg ‘n’ churn. Though to melds of rolling roast, choppy hack, and gritty rattle. Onto a blend of beaded/ warbling mids, galloping chop, and cluttering grain chop. And beyond. This track highlights Pakhomov’s ability to build developing/ well made/ often texturally creative moments.

Next is, of course, the Sleep Column track “Axilorma “. This is thicker from the off, and a much more set affair throughout. It’s built around a blend of constantly rumbling, rattling crispness, and a crusty jitter. Together these create this hugely towering/ pressing wall of sound- which is well and truly burying you in blunt, crude, and weighty sound

So, in conclusion, this split severs up two different takes on the wall noise- one more shifting/ detailed, and the other thicker, more unforgiving, weighty in its attack
