Tim Hecker — Radio Amour

This is a welcome reissue of Tim Hecker's 2002 release, that’s thought by many to be one of his finest releasers and it’s easy to see why. Coming across some moments  like being trapped in a TV dream, at others humming with richly warming Nostalgia. Hecker gives us a  captivating, haunting and often beautiful  collection of sonic worlds.

Each track has it’s melodic centre it’s pulse so to speak, which Hecker artful alters and bends, crackles and sways but never bends it enough to break or lose it’s charm. Really he intensifies it’s beauty so it shines into ones mind like spring sunshine. Added to this Hecker adds all manner of small micro details, little folds of static, layers of melodic drift and trapped radio voices hence the title. Unlike a lot of modern composers concentrating on melody corruption, rebirth and repetition Hecker cuts his cloth here fairly short, each track only lasting around the five minute mark, which makes this possible to dip into for shorter contracted listings. Though I think it really comes to live if you let it drift and wash over you’re a faded rainbow coloured whole. Like early Boards of Canada Hecker has managed to capture rain day Nostalgia in a jar and lets it gentle nudge and sway though the listeners mind.
