Thorybos — Monuments of Doom
The album offers up eight fairly short & unforgiving tracks, and these last between just under the two minute mark to just over the four minute mark. Each track here is mostly mid-paced to slowed, with the odd burst into blast beat territory. The guitars, bass & drums creating a grim ‘n’ prime evil mixture of blacked & death metal craft, with the singer presenting a fairly clear & often echo effect laden mixture of: death grunt/ bleak ‘n’ dark punk billow/ speedy grim chatter. The album moves along at a fairly consistent yet deeply grim pace, and while non of the tracks here are overtly memorable or stand out on there own the projects fairly original mix of blacked & death metal stylings makes this a rewarding ride.
“Monuments of Doom” is an effective ‘n’ grim enough black/ death metal cross breed. I’ll certainly be interested to hear what the band do in future, through I think they’ll need to possible expand their sound a little as I can’t see this sharp yet relatively simple mix of blacked & death metal working as well for a second full length.
