The Peppermints — Jesüs Chryst
18 tracks in 28 minutes, a raw, lo-fi sound, the habit of annihilating immediately any attempt at playing some straightforward melodic song, now you got the reasons why it appealed to Paw Tracks and Animal Collective.
Hailing from San Diego, the quartet has been around for years, probably trashing any scene, any venue foolish enough to let them play. Jesus Chryst is their second album, and they show no sign of any intent to clean up their act.
This is music that should be more enjoyable live than on CD: the poor sound and the endless battering make for an album that, after a few spins, become quite boring. On stage, it should be entirely different: I mean, you go there to get a good sonic beating, don’t you?
It’s in a way a sort of fun version of DNA mixed with rock à la Pussy Galore. It actually makes you crave for the originals rather for this bunch of fun loving, stage wrecking bastards
