Teeth of The Sea — Ophaned By the Ocean
With Ophaned By the Ocean the band manage to build seven consistent and building tracks that thankfully manage to side-step most of the overworked clichés of the post-rock genre. Keeping the tracks atmospheric and cinematically moving yet full of sudden sonic surprises and interesting turns; I think the use of trumpet really helps the tracks and marks out their sound well- but there’s also a nice use of guitar scraping, and atmospheric shading/ detail, percussive prowess and heady bass wonderings too. With the tracks having a keen sense of melodic grounding and atmospheric power- but always staying slightly dangerous and unpredictable in their make-up.
Certainly one of the most rewarding and consistent debut albums to appear from an atmospheric & building guitar based band in sometime. Teeth of The Sea are certainly worthy of your time if you have any interest in cinematic and building guitar music.
