Svarrogh — Yer Su
The songs are full of layers of; acoustic and electric guitars, deep male vocals, female vocals, sampled textures, electronic purrs and throbs, synth ambient expanses, clarinet hover and melodies, String swoons and swoops and all manner of sonic layers. All rather bringing to mind the feeling of a less metal sounding and more folky/ serious take on Arcturus in their more dense and genre bending moments. Yer Su certainly takes a few plays to understand and click into as there is so much going on in most of the songs, but if you give it chance you’ll find it’s a very dramatic, varied and ultimately enjoyable ride. I just wish there were a few more stripped down moments here and there to add some contrast to the album.
A dense, epic and muilt-layered work Yer Su will appeal to those who enjoy mixed genre music with a distinct folk and metallic edge to the proceedings.
