Sourlung/ No Fun HNW — Split

Here’s a US wall-noise split with some rather depraved themes. Each project offers up an around thirty-minute wall, and each is a very scuzzy/ nasty example of the form fitting the release's themes.

For the cover artwork to this digital release, we have a troubling picture of a figure on a bed- their hands appear to be tied behind their back; a thick black bag is on their head, which is attached to a gas tank.

First up, we have a track from Sourlung- this is seemingly the project's first release. I can’t find whereabouts in the States, but apparently the person behind it ran the short-lived noise label Gaghouse, which has now folded. The track here is entitled “Underwear Inside Out, Bound With Electrical Tape”; it’s built around a continual bucking mid-range/ mid-paced judder- which is edged with crudely unpredictable, at times (Bloody) budging blends of serrated hacks, blow-torch scorches, bone noise crunches, and ripping skin pelts. There’s a tangible feeling of unpleasantness about the track, and this, along with the title, paints some truly awful pictures of deranged depravity in one's mind.

Next we have a track from Scranton, South Carolina’s No Fun HNW, it’s entitled “Necrotic Rape Fantasies”. It’s slightly more detailed in its textural make-up than the first track, but it’s still damn nasty. The ‘wall’ brings together a circling & thin rattle, roughly rolling low-end drone, and these knocking/ speeding sub-tones. The thinner tones work well with the murky low end to create a crude, yet subtle, troubling ‘wall’- one can almost see a half-broken TV set alive with static reflecting post death sexual depravities.

So all in all a wall-noise split suited to those who like the genre at its most crude & nasty- prime to fill your mind with all manner of depravity and torture, so maybeit would make a good soundtrack for reading extreme horror fiction.
